EH Governance “A Structure Fit for the Future”

The North H.A. and the North Hockey League have become increasingly concerned about the misinformation that has recently been circulated which misrepresents their position on the forthcoming E.H. Resolution. Some of this comes from within the North, and some from across the country where the North position is being misrepresented.

The England Governance Review proposes changes that are designed to bring clarity and transparency and benefit all teams in all the Clubs throughout the country in the light of changes in the hockey landscape which have emerged from the surveys and consultations with Clubs.

North H.A has provided ample opportunity for Clubs to attend roadshows and, more recently, four specially arranged meetings which were held in the N.E., Cumbria, Yorkshire and Lancashire and at which around 70 Clubs and Associations were represented. In a straw poll of those that attended at least 85% showed they were in favour of the resolution as it is proposed. Of the 32 Clubs with teams in the top two North Divisions at least 50% of them attended and only two voted against the proposal.

Thus, the North H.A. North HUA are in favour of the Resolution as are the vast majority of the North Hockey League Committee.

The proposals, as they affect the League Structures, aim to provide more equal opportunities across the country for teams to progress to their highest level as well as organise structures into more logical approaches. In the North the split regions will become more comparable in size to other areas that are not changing significantly – e.g. the West, East– or Midlands that will see less change. The 8 Areas will be more equal in size and more common in structure.
At the upper end the expansion of the England Hockey League has already resulted in 4 North Premier teams moving up into the North Conference and the creation of 4 Conference divisions will mean another two North teams will move up i.e. in many respects the North Conference will become the North Premier in all but name. If the Resolution is adopted the current North HA structures will ensure that the new League structures for 2021-22 will be ready so clubs know what they are playing for at the start of the 2020 -2021 season. The new North-West and North-East Areas will both have progression routes to the England Hockey Leagues.

The NHA committee will ensure that clubs continue to be consulted to produce the new League Structure.

12th Dec (2018)Urinating at the side of a hockey pitch.

We are seeing an increasing number of complaints regarding urinating at the side of the pitch. As we are sure you will all agree, this behaviour is not only unpleasant but also a contravention of the EH ‘Respect – Code of Ethics and Behaviour’ – Disrepute Offence, not to mention in some cases a criminal offence. We expect all members to refrain from such behaviour. However, in the event of such incidences, in keeping with the revised Disrepute Complaint Regulations, we kindly ask that these be referred to EH as a Disrepute Complaint in the first instance. It is likely that offenders will face a suspension.
If you have any queries on this, Please contact England Hockey
